Behold! Less deep-frying and less bagpiping

Deep-Fried Bagpipes began as an endeavour to support the many Indian students who come to Edinburgh every year to start a new life as a uni student. Over the two years this blog was live, it reached hundreds of students, and it brought me a lot of joy to be able to ease this stressful and often lonely transition for so many. As I settled into my life in Edinburgh more, though, I started to lose touch with what it feels like to be a new immigrant and a new student, which meant I probably wasn't the best source of this advice anymore.

Over the years, much has changed. I'm in a very different phase of life, and the world is in a very different state of being. Short-form content was big even in 2022, but with the dreaded two-letter acronym (that will undoubtedly eventually show up on this blog, but all in good time) being what it is, I don't expect anyone to be a keen blog-reader. And yet, I still have things to say, and even if there's no one to say them to, Deep-Fried Bagpipes returns.

The things on my mind now are more representative of a young adult in a fragile world. I think about the pace of the world, capitalism and the tech oligarchy, investments and the cost of living, health and longevity, war and human rights. I think about living as an immigrant, I think about colonisation. Currently, I think a lot about finding a permanent job and how my requirements of this dream job are far more pragmatic than I'd like. And so, I try to think about the little joys in life, and I try to craft a little bubble where I can escape the bigger existential questions, however briefly.

I've said my goodbyes to Scotland and taken the very popular route down to London, which will be home for some time now. I'd started to miss living in a big city, and I'm very much enjoying the abundance of things to do, people to meet, sights to see. And so, amidst my deeper musings and frustrated ramblings, I'll also talk lots about what I get up to here.

If you're lucky, I might just share some works on here too: my music, my poetry or photography. I cannot promise they will be any good, but they'll get there one day (maybe).

So if you pardon the lack of deep-frying and the absence of bagpiping, I do hope there will still be something worthwhile in here. At the very least, I'm contributing to the diminishing distribution of human-written content in the vast void of the Internet. If you're reading this, thank you! Welcome aboard. Let's have some fun.
